Before we close off 2020, food delivery service, Deliveroo, looks back at the year and spotlights the most popular dishes around the world, as chosen by its customers. With the impact of a global pandemic, we've all spent a lot of time at home ordering takeout to satisfy our cravings. According to a Deliveroo research commissioned by Censuswide of over 1000 Singaporeans, the top three most popular reasons for ordering a takeaway this year were:
- As a treat (45%)
- To support local restaurants during the pandemic (26%)
- Being bored of home cooking (24%)

A Snapshot of Singapore's Most Loved Dishes
The tiny red dot is known for being a foodie paradise filled with innumerable delicious dishes. This year, Guzman y Gomez edged out stiff competition to take first place as the most ordered dish in Singapore and the 20th spot on the global list with its flavourful Chicken Burrito Bowl.
Customisable and healthy meals seem to be an ongoing trend for Singaporeans with VIOS Regular Bowl from VIOS by Blu Kouzina, Build Your Own Bowl by The Daily Cut, Build Your Own Wraps by SaladStop! and Build Your Bo from Heybo securing spots in Singapore's top 15 most ordered dishes.
Singaporeans did not forget their love for local hawker food as the country's well-loved dish chicken rice came in as the fifth most ordered dish across the island. Locals have also been indulging in comfort foods such as croissants, pizzas, burgers and quesadillas as they make an appearance in Singapore's top 15 most ordered dishes. Popular restaurants to order from include Tiong Bahru Bakery, Peperoni Pizzeria, P.S. Cafe, The Daily Cut and Boon Tong Kee.
The year of comfort food comeback
We all know 2020 has been a year like no other, and lockdown restrictions across the globe have meant food-delivery has played a more important role in all of our lives than ever before. With burgers and burritos taking up almost half the top 10 spots on the global list, it's clear that we've all been turning to comfort foods to tide us through the pandemic.
